It is a rare treat that I get to see the studio of our artist of the month. Diana Monroy graciously offered, and I eagerly accepted. So I drove to Fountain Street Studios in Framingham, Ma. I climbed the serious 5 flights of warehouse steps. Diana warmly greeted me with a hug, and was clearly excited to show me what she is all about.
Petite, joyous, capable, Diana is a motivated and determined Colombian artist who has produced an abundance of colorful and intense paintings and prints that express how we physically deal with emotion. She exudes an admirable passion for her art, and begins telling me about Colombia, the books her work has appeared in, the variety of workshops she’s taken, and the plethora of places her work has been exhibited – Colombia, France, Holland and Germany, as well as locally in Jamaica Plain, Framingham, Roxbury, Bedford, Southborough and Boston proper.
Clearly prolific, she kept showing me one painting after another, in the studio, on-line, and in pictures on her phone. Although she was making a strong case of the benefit to us showing her work at the SheBreathes Balance and Wellness Studio, I was in awe that she’s so happy to be showing her work in our gallery.
Every artist’s work effects us in some way. Some slowly seep into your soul, while others, like Diana’s work, dive right in to our pool of emotion. Please join us at SheBreathes, 85 West Street in Walpole, on Tuesday, September 12 from 6:30 to 8 to meet the artist and experience the beauty of her paintings. Refreshments will be served, so bring a friend and make it a date.
