Oh, My Word(s)!

I tend not to jump on the trend wagon, and when I choose to I usually find a way to do it differently and make it my own. Simple resolutions or intentions don’t stay front of mind for me. I have found that choosing my three words each year keeps me on track, mostly on those days here and there when I’m considering applying at Starbucks or Trader Joes, someplace I frequent so I can at least benefit from an employee discount.

Why three words?

About seven years ago, my good friend and colleague Susan Finn turned me on to this concept, started by Chris Brogan, who states:

“The words should point to who you intend to be, what you want to focus on, and how you want to perceive the work of the year ahead.”

My words remind me of actions I want to take and how I want to act when I’m taking those steps. So when I picture myself in that green apron or with a TJ’s nametag, I remind myself of my three words.

How do I find these magic words, you ask? Excellent question. They start to show up in the third or fourth quarter of the previous year - words that pop into my mind, new feelings I’m experiencing, or words I read or hear someone use that click for me.

What You’ve Been Waiting For:

Okay, okay. Here are my words for 2024. (Cue drumroll in your head now)

Attraction. I’m married, so don’t get the wrong idea. I loved all of my clients in 2023. As business owners, you know this is a blessing. But to find the clients best suited for you, you have to attract them with your confidence in what you do, clarity on how you do it differently, and the right words to target only those specific people. This year I want to continue to write copy and content for my clients that attracts the clients they want to work with.

Momentum. This can be a tricky one. When I think of momentum, I think of a nice steady pace moving me forward, but not burning me out or moving so quickly that I get thrown off the track. I want to be ready when my momentum is nudging me forward so I’m prepared for the success it brings.

Surrender. I’m not referencing the white flag here. I’m talking about accepting joy, abundance, health, prosperity, and all the goodies attraction and momentum will send my way. But, on the days that I want to quit, surrendering to what is in the moment is a better option since I love being a writer, and writing for my clients.

I’m curious, what works best for you? Is it resolutions, intentions, one word, or three words? Maybe you don’t do anything like this. Hit reply and tell me why.

Will 2024 be your year to use engaging content that infuses your uniqueness, bold voice, and incredible ideas? It’s time to dive in, find the best clients for you and tell them why.
